

Anita Jackson Durrett, 68, turned away from her earthly journey and was called home to eternal rest on April 13, 2014. After a strong battle against Alzheimer’s, she passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.
Anita was born on August 17, 1945 in Greenville, MS. After raising her children in Springfield, MA, she made Grottoes, VA her home and became a loyal member of Beverly Manor Baptist Church in Staunton. She retired after 22 years with Reynolds Plastics (ALCOA) and enjoyed a restful retirement which included her favorite hobby of working in her flower beds and around her home and spending time with her family.
Anita is survived by her children, Wanda Boney and husband, Henry, of Columbia, SC, Charles Jackson and wife, Sherri, of McGaheysville, Valerie Hinds and husband, Clycon, of Springfield, MA, Mary Gunter and husband, Bobby, of Grottoes, Gregory Jackson of Harrisonburg; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings, Dennis Fisher and wife, Lois, of Harrisonburg, Wanda Alford of Bellingham, WA, Laura Harris of Springfield, MA, Scott Jones of Richmond, George E. Jones of the Philippines and Randy Jones and wife, Sandra, of Richmond. She was preceded in death by a brother Earl Jones of Chicago, IL.
The family will receive friends 5:30 – 7:00 pm, on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave. The casket will be closed.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm, at Edgewood Cemetery in Weyers Cave on Friday, April 18, with Pastor James H. McIntosh officiating.
