

A son of the late George and Fannie Garber Lucas, he was born on June 11, 1933 in Grottoes. He graduated from Weyers Cave High School and lived the majority of his life in Grottoes and the Weyers Cave communities. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves.
Mr. Lucas was retired from DuPont after 35 years of employment in the maintenance dept. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, the Grand Promenades Square Dance Club and was a big blue grass fan.
On August 7, 1954 he married Mary “Peggy” Redifer Lucas who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Douglas Edward Lucas and wife, Pam, of Marion, TX, and Gary Lucas and wife, Laura, of Weyers Cave; six grandchildren, Bryan Lucas and wife, Sherri, Kelly McLeran and husband, Charlie, and Cody, Tyler, Aaron and Faith Lucas.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family as he was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Hooke, Goldie Coakley and Ruth Stephenson and a brother, George L. Lucas, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev.’s Brad McMullen and Jim Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Naked Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave.
