She was born on November 23, 1932 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Jesse and Edith Harmon Lam.
Evelyn was raised in McGaheysville and graduated from McGaheysville High School; she had lived in the Weyers Cave community for 60 years. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren in Weyers Cave and was co-owner of Welty C. Cline Excavating Inc. before retiring. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed all the time she spent with them.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia McAllister and husband, Clinton, of Mt. Sidney, and Catherine Grimm and husband, Terry, of Staunton; five grandchildren, Christina Shafer (Danny), Steven McAllister, Betsy Peake (Mike), Cameron Michael (Christine) and Terry Lane Grimm, Jr.; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Patricia Lam of Elkton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Welty C. Cline on October 31, 1992 and Bennett T. Matthews on December 31, 1998; a brother, Jesse Lam, Jr.; and a sister, Dorothy Lam.
A memorial service will be held 2 pm, Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Pastor Daniel House officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A private graveside service will be held at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
