After graduating from Broadway High School in 1957, he attended Bridgewater College and later obtained his master’s degree in math and physics from the College of William and Mary.
Upon graduating from Bridgewater, he began teaching math, computer math, and physics at many area high schools, starting at Waynesboro High in 1961. Through the years he taught at Harrisonburg, Spotswood, and finally Fort Defiance from where he retired in 2001. Larry taught physics at Blue Ridge Community College for a number of years while also farming beef cattle and poultry.
Larry greatly enjoyed playing golf in his younger years and reveled in watching the grandkids play basketball, volleyball, and softball. He could remember every lyric of every song released in the 1950s and often serenaded listeners. He loved telling stories of his life growing up in Fulks Run and walking in the mountains there while hunting.
Larry is survived by a son, Jeff (Misty), of Mount Sidney; three granddaughters, Emma, Samantha, and Sara, all of Mount Sidney, who meant the world to him and who made him extremely proud. Also surviving are two brothers, Clayton (Peggy), and Roger (Sue) all of Fulks Run, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his wife, Nancy, and a sister, Mary Dove.
The family would like to thank Jackie Ross for her caregiving efforts as well as Liz, Noah, and Patsy from Sentara Hospice for their help and support these last few months.
