Robert Woodson “Woody” Thomas, 77, a resident of Weyers Cave, passed away at Sentara-RMH Medical Center on Sunday, July 13, 2014.
He was born on February 21, 1937 in Deerfield, VA, and was the son of the late Robert and Ruby Bartley Thomas.
Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching pro bull riding and angus cattle sales. Prior to his retirement he was an angus herdsman and showman for many years. He was a member of Virginia Angus Association and a lifetime member of American Angus Association.
Robert is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shelby Jean Vencill Thomas, who survives. They were married on February 11, 1966.
He is also survived by three sons, Joseph Thomas of Logan OK, Steven Thomas and wife, Sandra, of Staunton, and Brian Thomas and companion, Jane McDorman of Weyers Cave; two daughters, Cheryl Thomas of Oklahoma, and Constance Thomas Wooddell of Weyers Cave; sisters, Charlotte Wilkerson and husband, Burnett, of Staunton, Patty Graham of Deerfield, VA, and Adona Washington of Staunton; nine grandchildren, Melissa and Ryan Hall, Amanda and Chockey Thomas, Damian and Travis Eutsler, Garrett and Krysta Thomas and Victoria Wooddell; one great-grandson, Hondo Thomas; his nieces, nephews, other relatives, his longtime friends and his bulldog, “Mitsy”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruby Thomas, a brother, Rodney “Toddy” Thomas and a sister, Annie Robertson.
Robert will be cremated and a memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave at 5:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
