She was a native of Pierre Part and a resident of White Castle. Bernice shared a deep and enduring love with her husband, John R. Irwin, Sr, standing faithfully by his side for 52 years. She adored her family deeply, yet her love extended far beyond them. Bernice was everyone’s “Granny B” or “B” – the one with the warm smile, open door, and comforting presence people naturally gravitated towards.
An unwavering animal lover, she cared deeply for every creature that crossed her path. Whether it was a family pet, or stray in need, she always found room in her heart – and often her home.
Bernice was a devout Catholic and member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Deeply rooted in her faith, she attended Mass every Sunday without fail, finding comfort and strength in prayer and scripture. Grounded in her faith, she provided a calm and unwavering sense of hope to anyone in need. She was truly selfless, always placing the needs of others ahead of her own.
Survived by her loving husband, John R. Irwin, Sr,; two sons, Nuggie (Trish) and Toby (Katie); four granddaughters, Lainey (Nick), Gracie (Joseph), Elizabeth “Lizzy”(Trent), and Addyson; three sisters, Lucielle Theriot, Emma Lee Blanchard, and Evelyn Simoneaux; sister -in-law, Mary “Sissy” Irwin; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Potter and Rodney Irwin; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
