

George was a very affectionate husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was a devoted Catholic who cherished his faith and was a proud parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church.
George was a family man who always put the needs of his loved ones before his own. He rarely missed a family event and treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved. In his spare time, George enjoyed playing pickleball and cards and, most of all, gathering with family and friends.
After 40 years of dedicated service, George retired from the Dow Plaquemine Chemical Plant, where he worked as an Analyzer Technician. George was an active member of the White Castle Community where he served in several different organizations, including: The Lions Club and Jaycees. He and his wife participated in the Senior Spirit Clubs of Iberville and West Baton Rouge Parish as well as the pickle ball leagues of Donaldsonville and Port Allen.
George proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served aboard the USS Nantahala and was honored to take part in the recovery of astronaut Gordon Cooper.
George will be remembered for his unwavering faith, devotion to his family, love of fellowship, and commitment to his country. His presence brought love and joy to the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Peggy Comeaux Alonzo; two children, Brent Alonzo (Susan) and Natalie Vega (REV); four grandchildren, Grant Alonzo (Brandon), Rachel Alonzo, R. Bennett Vega (Katrina) and Georgia Vega; one great grandchild on the way, baby Vega; three siblings, Donald Alonzo, Ann Laurie Blanchard and Penny Mills (Gerry); one sister-in-law, Diane Hebert (Bob) and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He is preceded in death by parents, Penrose and Doris Fourroux Alonzo and his in laws, Donald and Genevieve Blank Comeaux; one brother-in-law, Bob Blanchard and two sisters-in-law, Pansy Alonzo and Gwendolyn “Squeezer” Martinez (Larry).
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Francois Bend Senior Living and Amedisys Hospice for their tremendous compassion and support in their time of need.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Ourso Funeral Home in White Castle from 8:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Interment to follow in the church mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George’s honor to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund or the Knock Out MS Foundation.
