He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who inspired us in many ways throughout his life. He was a retired sugar cane farmer, who loved his work, his employees, his farming friends and his community. He was an honorable man, the “unofficial” Mayor of Samstown, who conducted both his business and personal affairs with integrity. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church Parish and the Knights of Columbus Monsignor DeMaurizi Council 4346. He served on the White Castle Fertilizer Co-op Board, the Iberville Parish Jury Commission, and for 25 years on the Iberville Parish Farm Bureau Board.
Survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie Therese “Bitsy” Richard Adams; seven children: five daughters and four sons-in-law, Elizabeth Adams and husband, Larry Perez of Baton Rouge, Christine Adams of Washington, D.C., Susan Adams and husband, Jimmy Aysenne of Napoleonville; Lillia Adams and husband, Marc Noel of Prairieville; Stacey Adams and husband, Keith Ory of Baton Rouge; two sons and daughters-in-law, L.G. III “Larry” and Terri Dumas Adams of Prairieville; Glynn and Julie Blondeau Adams of Slidell; 12 grandchildren: Amanda Aysenne and husband Jeffrey Hemard of Lafayette; Courtney Aysenne of Baton Rouge; Adam Aysenne and wife, Alyssa of Napoleonville; Kali Adams and husband, Steven Aucoin of Baton Rouge; Mattye Adams and L.G. “Sonny” Adams IV of Prairieville; Marc Noel II and wife, Katie of Shreveport; Jeffrey Noel of Austin, TX; Lauren, Jonathan, Glynn Michelle and Julia Adams of Slidell; four great-grandchildren: Finley, Hayden and Grayson Hemard, and Madison Aysenne. He is also survived by three sisters, Betty Adams Richard, Connie Adams Cardinal and Norma Adams Doiron of White Castle; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Lawrence Adams and Agnes Hebert Adams and six sisters, Calvin Adams, Audrey Adams Dupre’, Sybil Adams Comeaux, Lorraine Adams Suarez, Fay Adams Strayhorn and Willa Adams Maxwell.
The family extends its special thanks to the staffs of Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, CVT Surgical Center, St. Joseph Hospice of Baton Rouge and the various medical personnel that attended his needs with compassion and professionalism. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Visitation at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, White Castle, Monday, October 10, from 9 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am, concelebrated by the Rev. Donald Blanchard and Rev. Joey F. Angeles, pastor. Pallbearers are his grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers are his sons-in-law. Internment in the White Castle Cemetery.
