She was the fourth daughter born of James and Margaret Whyte on November 8, 1939, in Glasgow, Scotland. She joined her three sisters, Margaret (Maggie), Elizabeth (Betty), and Jean (Jane). She completed high school in Glasgow, where she studied business and marketing. After graduating, she worked in jewelry sales, diligently saving to travel to the United States to join two sisters, Betty and Jane, and their young families.
Cathie embarked on a twenty-five year career, most of her time spent in the medical records department of Hoffman La Roche in Nutley, New Jersey, working with now-obsolete technology, then known as microfiche. This was the way businesses retained their historical data and research and documents. A sort-of corporate librarian! Her daily mode of transportation was her two legs, walking the three miles to work and back. She loved her walks, and continued walking many miles every day throughout her retirement.
She retired in 1998, relocating from Nutley to Whiting. Cathie joined Christ Lutheran Church and delved into an active community. In addition to her walking, she became an avid bowler in a league. Retirement was fun for Cathie, filled with day trips to Atlantic City and theater shows with her peers. She loved her seaside vacations with family and watching glorious sunsets over Barnegat Bay.
Cathie was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Campbell (1980), brother-in-law Michael Campbell (1980, sister Betty Lombardi (2011), brother-in-law Wilson “Bill” Lombardi (2021), brother-in-law Louis Cherone (2001), nephew Scott Cherone (2003), and niece Sandra Lombardi O’Brien (2019).
Surviving are her sister Jane Cherone, nieces Marge Cherone-Parada, Cindi Lombardi DaRin, Diane Lombardi DiCamillo, Karen Campbell; and great-nieces Rachel Parada, Gia DiCamillo, Brianna DaRin, Rebecca Parada, Alexandria O’Brien, and Jenna DaRin; and great-nephew Brandon O’Brien.
