On October 11, 2021, Donald Hansen, Sr., 85, peacefully passed at his home in Whiting, NJ. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised on Staten Island by his loving parents, Jennie D. and Edward L. Hansen. As a child he studied various musical instruments eventually focusing on the Piano and Theater organ. He was a graduate of New Dorp High School. He attended Pace University and was a manufacturing cost accountant for several businesses in the New York and New Jersey area including the security, printing, and home goods industries. Accountant by trade, his true vocation was the theater organ. For many years he was a sort after concert organist throughout the tri-state area, and recorded music for the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire”, as well as two CDs. He also ran a successful series of fund-raising events with fellow organists for charity. He was married to the late Aida Vito for 42 years and is survived by his two sons and their wives, four grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Per his wishes, a private ceremony for close family members was held on Thursday evening, October 14, and his remains will be cremated and inurned at Ocean View Cemetery Burial Park on Staten Island with his wife. I had talked with Don on the phone a few times and he really was so funny. He was an amazing organist/musician. Beautiful feeling when he played. We will miss him. God bless you, Don.
