Edward John Doerflein, 95, of Toms River for many years passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Pines at Whiting surrounded by family. He was a Veteran of the US Navy having served during WW II. He was a member of the Navy Submarine Service aboard the USS Hammerhead having served 4 combat missions in the South China Sea /Pacific Theatre between 1944 and 1945. He was a tool maker for Englehard Industries in Union for 35 years retiring in 1972. After retiring he became the owner of L.J. Marine supply in South Toms River. He was member of the F&A Masons Harmony Lodge, Toms River. He was a handyman, an avid boater and fisherman. Born in Newark, he resided in Union before moving to Toms River in 1974 & to Whiting in 2011.
Edward is predeceased by his wife of 66 years, the late Connie nee Miller in 2011. He is survived by his children, Paul Doerflein & his wife Jan and Carol Doerflein & her husband Frederick Mecke. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Barbara Doerflein, and Hal Doerflein Mecke. Arrangements are private and under the direction of the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home.
