

Elizabeth L. Neilson, 86, of Whiting, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Paisley, Scotland and immigrated to the U.S. in 1957, settling in Kearny, NJ, where she met her husband, Robert Neilson, who had also immigrated from Scotland. They married in 1960 and moved to Hazlet to raise their family. In 2008 she moved to Whiting, NJ. She was very proud of the fact that she became a naturized citizen of the U.S. in 2004.
Betty worked as Bank Manager at United Jersey Bank in Union Beach for many years. She later worked as a Donation Coordinator at Central Jersey Blood Bank in Shrewsbury, retiring in 2003. Betty had a very strong faith in God and loved the Lord. She was an active member of Lincroft Bible Church for many years where she sang in the choir and taught children in the Awana Club Program. She later became a devoted member of Whiting Bible Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and the Awana Club Program. Betty also had a passion for volunteering at America’s Keswick and singing at their various concert events.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was loved by all. Betty enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and made many baby blankets and sweaters, among other things. She enjoyed reading and spending time at the beach, where she vacationed with her family.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Neilson, in 2001; and her brother, Robert Davidson. She is survived by her 4 children, Barbara McDonald and her husband Brian, Kathrine Neilson, Joan Vitale and John Neilson and his wife Jennifer; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Davidson; and many nieces & nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 10-11am at Whiting Bible Church, 95 Lacey Rd. Whiting, NJ. A Memorial Service will follow at 11am at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty’s memory to Whiting Bible Church.
