Ernest “Butch” Sloan Sr., of the Whiting section of Manchester Twp., passed away peacefully Friday September 7, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Butch graduated in 1963 from Lakewood High School. Butch was the Deputy Director of Manchester Twp. Department of Public Works until his retirement in 2006 after 35 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department.
He was predeceased by his parents Lester and Anna Sloan, his three brothers, Raymond "Frosty", Kenny and Walt and a sister Jane. Butch will truly be missed by his loving wife Lorraine ”Chickie”, his four sons and their families, David and Maryann, Jimmy and Amanda, Butch Jr. and Christine and Kevin and Michelle. Also surviving are his 6 grandchildren, Chelsea, Sid, Ariel, Nikko, Ashley and Hailey, 5 step-grandchildren and eight loving step-great grandchildren. Butch is survived by his niece, but more like a sister Sharon and a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 11, 2018 from 10am-12pm at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Road, Whiting, NJ 08759. A Committal service will follow at Old Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests considering a donation to either the Whiting Fire Department or to the V.F.W. Post 10118, 2652 W. Lacey Rd. Forked River, NJ 08731.
