Gabriel Hughes Sr. 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends. Gabriel was born and raised in Jersey City, resided in Bayonne, NJ for 30 years before settling in Whiting NJ. Gabriel served for the US Army during WW II. He was a proud member and past commander of the American Legion Post 388 and Moose Lodge 266. He worked for the Jersey City printing Company for 30 years before retiring from the US Postal Service in 1989. He enjoyed woodworking, poetry and listening to music, but his true passion was spending time with his beloved wife Lily and family. Gabriel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother he will be greatly missed by all.
Gabe is predeceased by his son Gabriel, his parents Dolores and Francis X., brothers, Joseph, Francis, George, Gerald, John, sisters, Mary, Rita, Thecla and Winifred. Gabriel is survived by his wife Lillian of 67 years, his children, Dolores and Richard Johnson, Lillian and John Berberick, Frances and Michael Hudacko, Joann and Joe Galella, Lorraine and Mark Ellerson, Darlene and James Gallagher, his brother James and Dorothy Hughes, sister, Clare Flannery and sisters-In-Law, Ruth Hughes, Helen Mecca, Mary Colasurdo, Florence Mazza and Victoria Martino, grandchildren, Amy-Michele Johnson and Wesley Bayard, Kerilyn and Jeff McAndrews, Richard and Valerie Johnson, Jennifer and Randy Joskowitz, John and Alicia Berberick, Michael Hudacko, Justin Hudacko, Gabriel Galella and fiancé Johanna Zuniga, Nicole and Anthony Vilardo, Joseph Galella, Dana Galella, Alyssa Ellerson, Robert Ellerson, Jaclyn Gallagher and Liam Gallagher, his great grandchildren, Aaron, Zachary, Kiernan, Kahlina, Emma, Leah, Declan, Colleen, Lucas, Anthony, Justin, Sophia, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting, NJ. Mass will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 9:00am at Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 30 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ. Christian burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ.
