2023.
Gary had a witty sense of humor and will be missed and remembered by the many lives he touched. He
was born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania on September 24, 1943, and spent the majority of his childhood in
Morgantown and Ravenswood, West Virginia. He graduated from Ravenswood High School where he
was known as Fireball for his rapid fire pitches on the baseball field.
He served in the Navy as a sonar technician during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his honorable
discharge, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to be near family and completed his electrician’s
apprenticeship at Spring Garden College. He worked in Philadelphia as a union electrician and foreman
with IBEW Local 98 until his retirement.
Gary enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his yard, watching his favorite sports teams,
caring for his pets and wood carving different animals and objects.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose (Ballentine), his daughters Leah Jafir and husband,
Marouane of Wilmington, DE, and Linda Barth and husband, Steve, of Huntingdon Valley, PA, and his
granddaughter Mazzy. Also survived by his siblings, Annette Hutchins of Telford, PA, Leah Ann Triplett
of Ravenswood, WV, Karen Thomas of St. Louis, MO, and Gilbert of London, England, as well as his
