OBITUARY

John Joseph McCormick

January 16, 1934May 20, 2020

John J. McCormick, age 86, longtime resident of New City, New York, died May 20, 2020 of natural causes. John was a proud member of the IBEW Local 3 for 65 years. He was an electrician for over 40 years and served as Director of the Local 3 High Voltage Cable Splicing School. John proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Hornet from 1952 to 1955. He was the past President of the North Jersey IBEW 3 Retirees Club and an active member of the USS Hornet Club. He had many close friends in both clubs and greatly enjoyed sharing good times and laughs with them over the years. Very proudly, born and raised in “The” Bronx to his loving parents, Arthur and Anna (nee Hahn) McCormick on January 16, 1934. John was the oldest of four boys; besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur and Donald. He is survived by his devoted and loving brother, Richard, sister-in-law Patricia and nephew Richard. John was always happy to share a wildly entertaining story and a laugh with all that he met. He loved traveling and making new friends along the way. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Catherine (nee Lynch.) They married on July 4, 1959 and he liked to joke that “the country gained its independence on the day that I lost mine.” They made many wonderful memories together which she will cherish and hold close until they meet again. John will be remembered as a bigger than life dad that liked to remind his children that he “wrote the book and they were just reading it”. He is survived by his four children: Laure (Mark), John, James (Jennifer) and Mary (Trey.) In addition, he was a fun-loving and active Pop Pop to eleven grandchildren: Matt, Chris, Tommy, Shannon, Bernadette, Steven, Harrison, Ryan, Jake, Josh and Alexandra. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. Under the current circumstances, there are no funeral arrangements. When the time is right, a memorial service will be scheduled for family and friends to come together to celebrate the life of a great man. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to your favorite charity in John’s honor.

I have wonderful childhood memories of Uncle John. Visits to New City to see him and Aunt Cathy and my cousins were among the highlights of my youth. My condolences to the family, and much love to you all.
