Louis J. Porco, 87, of the Whiting section of Manchester Twp., passed away peacefully on November 12, 2013, surrounded by family. Mr. Porco was born & raised in the Bronx, NY and lived in Salisbury Mills, NY for many years moving here 8 years ago. Louis was a Veteran of the US Army, having served in World War II. He was a mechanic and a "jack of all trades" who could do many things. As a Teamster Member of Local 707 & 807, both in New York, NY. He was a mechanic employed by P&G Truck Co., in the Bronx for many years retiring in 1985. A Roman Catholic he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Washingtonville, NY., as well as active in the "Country Kids" Food Pantry. He was always giving to others whether as a volunteer for the church where he was an usher for many years also exemplified by being awarded the 'Award for Outstanding Citizenship' by the NAACP. He is survived by his wife Dora of 63 years, his daughter Anne Reyes & her husband James of Whiting, a son Michael Porco & his wife Nancy of Garfield, a son Gary Porco & his wife Mary Jean, also of Garfield, 8 grandchildren & 8 greatgrandchildren.
The visitation will be on Monday, November 18, 2013 from 8:15 - 10:15 am. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:45am from the Chapel at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton RC Church Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ. Committal will follow at The Brig. Genl. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request considering a donation to the Country Kids Food Pantry 30 Goshen Ave, Washingtonville, NY 10992.
