Maria Colon, age 78, of Whiting, NJ, passed away on May 22, 2026. Born in the Republic of Georgia during a time when life demanded resilience and perseverance, Maria lived a life shaped by hard work, independence, and dedication to caring for others.
A nurse who spent much of her career working in geriatrics, Maria devoted herself to helping elderly patients through some of the most difficult and vulnerable moments of their lives. Nursing was demanding work, but it suited her strength and determination well. Through long shifts and difficult days, she spent years caring for people who depended on her compassion and experience.
Maria was a woman who carried both strength and stubbornness in equal measure. Like many from her generation, she faced life head on and did things her own way. Though life’s paths sometimes create distance within families, the bonds of shared history, memories, and love remain complicated and enduring.
She leaves behind her children, Danny (wife Rosemary), Greg (wife Michele), Kenny (late wife Sarita), Jennifer, and Lawrence (wife Marzette); her grandchildren, Arianna, Cristiano, Evan, Giavanna, Jadyn, Skye, and Yasmin; and her great granddaughter, Harper; and her sister Carol.
She was preceded in death by loved ones who welcomed her home.
Every family has a story that is layered, imperfect, and deeply human. Maria’s story was no different. She leaves behind memories that span decades, moments of joy and difficulty alike, and a family who will carry those experiences with them always.
May she now find the peace that can sometimes be difficult to find in this life.
