March 17, 1932 – November 11, 2020
Marie E. Morch, 88, of Whiting, NJ passed away peacefully on November 11, 2020. After living with Alzheimer’s for 8 years, God has graciously called her home. She was married to Otto Morch, also of Whiting, NJ for 67 years. Marie was born in Rahway, NJ in 1932 to the late Bertram and Emma Moller and was raised in Kenilworth, NJ. She met her future husband, Otto, at a Bible club for high schoolers in Cranford, NJ. She and Otto both attended Nyack College in Nyack, NY and married in June 1953. They made their home in Rockland County, NY for over 40 years. Marie was an office manager for a large general insurance firm in Spring Valley, NY in the late 1950’s and early 60’s. Marie and Otto were heavily involved in Park Evangelical Free Church in New City, NY. Marie enjoyed spending time on Long Beach Island at their home in Surf City, NJ. The family spent many summers there together. From Otto’s retirement in 1997 until 2008, Marie and Otto lived in Manchester Township, NJ at Leisure Knoll. Once in retirement, Marie and Otto enjoyed traveling to places like Bermuda, the Grand Canyon and Alaska. They also would spend winters at their home in Boca Raton, FL. From 2008 until 2014, they lived in Myerstown, PA so they could be near Cindee and Ted to help with their three young children. In 2014, they moved to the Pines (at Whiting) where Marie was admitted to the memory care unit. Otto lovingly cared for Marie by taking her to lunch and on car rides almost every day until she could no longer handle the outings. They were truly best friends. Marie was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Marie and Otto have two children: Scott (m. Susan) of St. Johns, FL and Cindee (m. Ted) Kennett of Lancaster, PA. They also have five grandchildren: Emily (19), Cassidy (17), Jaden (16), Ian (14) and Julia (13). Marie’s grandchildren will always remember her love, warmth and affection. From countless preschool programs to dance recitals, golf and gymnastics meets, Grandma/Nana was always there to cheer for her grandchildren and show her love and support. While she had so many ways of demonstrating love to others, it seems her favorite way was to cook and bake delicious food. She was an amazing cook. She mastered everything from cookies and cakes to Norwegian meatballs (kjottkaker). The family favorite was her krumkage (a cone-shaped cookie) that she made every year at Christmas. Everyone misses her cooking! Marie will be laid to rest in Ocean County Memorial Gardens, Waretown, NJ. A small ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 21 at 11am. Due to covid restrictions, the family is hoping to plan a memorial service for some point in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope International (a Christ- centered financial services organization reaching underserved populations around the world with micro loans and savings programs). Donations can be mailed to Hope International, 227 Granite Run Drive, Suite 250, Lancaster, PA. 17601. Please put "In memory of Marie Morch" in the memo line. Memorial Service will be Saturday, November 21 at 11am from the Chapel at the Ocean County Memorial Park, 280 Wells Mill Rd. Waretown, NJ 08758.
