Marion Ruth Parmentier (nee Wainwright), 95,of Whiting, NJ, passed peacefully Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Hopewell Junction, NY surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lakewood, NJ on July 27 to Albert and Leila Wainwright, she grew up with her older sister Helen on a farm on County Line Road.
She lived in Lakewood, Newark, Union, East Brunswick, and Lincroft NJ before moving to Whiting Station in 1989. She graduated from Lakewood High School in 1941 where she met her sweetheart and future husband, Jim, in French Club. Following High School she went to Presbyterian School of Nursing in Newark, NJ, successfully becoming a Registered Nurse. She married Jim in June 1946 at Hope Chapel, Lakewood, NJ following his discharge from the US Navy after serving in World War II. As an RN she worked as a substitute school nurse in Middletown Township before becoming the fulltime school nurse at Middletown Township High School, then Middletown South High School upon its opening, before retiring in 1986. As a member of the high school staff she was beloved by the students and especially the sports teams. She was known as an “Assistant Coach” and called “Mrs. P” by all, mentoring and becoming a “second Mother” to many students.
Active in the community, she was the Treasurer and Vice President of the Lincroft Women’s Club, raising money in support of local causes. Upon moving to Whiting, she joined the Christ Lutheran women’s group and was active in that from 1989 until recently. She was also a member of the Whiting Station Residents Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jim, in December 1993. Surviving are her son, Timothy, of San Jose, California; a daughter, Denise Parmentier, of Hopewell Junction, New York; daughter-in-law Suzanne Parmentier; five grandchildren, Kaitlin Parmentier Kellen Fellows, Wesley Rodas, Olivia Rodas, and Brandon Rodas; grandsons-in-law Derrick Fellows and Anthony Varrone; and three great-grandchildren, Evan Elle Fellows, Bennet Fellows, and Ariana Varrone.
She was happiest doing things with family, taking care of her beloved dogs, going to the beach, and being with friends at church. She loved her coffee, chocolate, and afternoon sweets.
Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home in Whiting, NJ is in charge of arrangements. Viewing will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, with a service following at 11 AM. She will be laid to rest at Hope Chapel, Lakewood, NJ next to her husband, James. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to Christ Lutheran Church in Whiting, NJ
