

Pamela Anne (Schmidt) Unger, 80, of Whiting, NJ, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Artis Senior Living in Brick, NJ. Pam was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. She graduated from Dickinson High School and went on to receive her BA and MA from Jersey City State College. Pam also studied at Montclair State College and Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ.
Pam was employed by the Secaucus Board of Education as an elementary school teacher. She spent her entire teaching career in Huber Street School, having been a classroom teacher of children grades 3-6 for over 20 years. She also taught music at the school for over 15 years. Part of her work was conducting the school’s 4th, 5th and 6th grade chorus. Her choruses earned Excellent and Superior ratings at adjudicated choral festivals for at least 10 years.
She was also employed as a church organist and choir director at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Keyport for 24 years. After retiring from teaching, Pam moved to Whiting where she served as an organist and choir director at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and an organist at Christ Lutheran Church. She was the past director of the Deerfield Songsters and was a member and assistant director of the Crestwood Chorus, both in Whiting.
Pam loved to cruise, sing and play music and her cats. She will be dearly missed.
Pam was predeceased by her husband, Emil J. Unger; her parents, Walter and Irene Schmidt; her sister, Erica Brzuszkiewicz; and step-grandchild, Lawrence Imbro. She is survived by her sister, Lenore Sullivan; her daughter, Ruth Imbro and her husband Lawrence; 3 grandchildren, Jaime Hamilton, Heather Whitaker and Anthony Ferrano and Kirsten Morris; step-grandchildren, Lacey Imbro and Drew Imbro; great-grandchildren, Mila Ferrano and Faith Imbro; nieces, Donna Sullivan and fiancé Eric Schoenhoeff and Laura McGinn and husband John McGinn and their children, Jack and Michael McGinn; nephew, Marc Brzuskiewicz and Leslie Brzuskiewicz and their children Annabella and Eric; and her 2 beloved cats who now serve as cherished companion animals at The Pines in Whiting.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 10am at Christ Lutheran Church in Whiting. Committal of Pam's ashes will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Keyport, NJ. Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting, NJ is in charge of the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pam’s memory can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
