Robert Hayes

September 13, 1966October 18, 2021

Robert C. Hayes, 55, left his earthly home and was welcomed into the presence of his Savior on Monday, October 18, 2021. Robert was the loving son of Roger and Mary Ann Hayes of South Montrose, Pennsylvania, and was married to his soulmate and the love of his life, Joyce (whom he affectionately called ‘Joycee’), for 32 years. A classically-trained and gifted pianist and arranger, Robert met Joyce while performing together in the Chamber Singers at Clarks Summit University … and thus began their life of making beautiful music together. He began his ministry as Minister of Youth and Music at Calvary Baptist Church In Binghamton, NY, and Gospel House Church in Walton Hills, Ohio. They traveled nationally and internationally while sharing their music of hope and encouragement through Concerts of Worship and Praise, ministered for a season at Montrose Bible Conference, and ultimately were invited to serve as Artists-in-Residence at America’s Keswick Christian Camp and Conference Center in Whiting, New Jersey. It is there that Robert and Joyce have faithfully shared their love of Jesus through song for the past 21 years, whether through singing duets together or through Robert’s masterful and worship-invoking playing, often from memory. Robert was one of the kindest, most humble, and gentle people you could ever hope to meet. He was very intentional in his relationships and cared for others in a way that had a lasting impact. Robert was incredibly witty and had a great sense of humor, had an infectious laugh and a radiant smile, was fiercely competitive, loved chocolate (especially fudge), enjoyed antiquing, camping and walks on the boardwalk. Aside from his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his greatest earthly love was his family. In addition to his wife, Joyce, he leaves his cherished sons, Jordan (Michelle) and Carter, as well as his two grandchildren whom he adored, Noah and Molly. Besides his parents, Roger and Mary Ann Hayes, also left to treasure his memory are his siblings and their families: Sarah (Jon) Young, John Hayes, and Karen (Guy) Parrish; brother-in-law, Bruce Sparks; sister-in-law, Lynne (Bill) Jahns; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Phyllis Sparks; and many special nieces and nephews. Robert leaves countless friends who will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 24, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at America's Keswick Auditorium, 601 Rt 530, Whiting, NJ 08759. Services will begin at 4:00 PM at Americas Keswick Gymnasium. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request considering a donation to Concerts of Worship and Praise at 601 Rt. 530, Whiting, NJ 08759.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Hayes family.

Dear Joyce - I was just told of Robert’s passing. I am sorry for your loss but happy for God’s gain! I don’t know if you remember me but our family loved you both while at Calvary. My sons Randy and Toby Wood really loved working with Robert. Lord that was so long ago! Randy is now 47 with a loving wife and amazing daughter now 18 Unfortunately we lost Toby to cancer in 2007 but his love for the Lord helped him be strong. And that was installed in him thanks to Robert. You both really influenced us during your stay at Calvary. Jim remembers the cow pie in the box he and Ken left on the alter! Robert kept the secret so well! God Bless you and your precious family.

I am so sorry.
I remember playing piano duets with Robert long ago as we traveled together with Concerts of Worship and Praise. It was a privilege to present music with such a master who was always so kind and encouraging.
During many drives in the van with you
I would look up to see Robert singing & conducting to the radio and that always warmed my heart.
I always describe Robert to my family and friends as, ‘He didn’t do music, he was music.’

Robert’s humor was enjoyed by all who were with him and he had a gentle, humble personality that was endearing. The twinkle in his eye was much like his mother’s. I also recall John and Robert bantering short quips back and forth like a ping-pong game!

I have been praying for the entire Hayes family but especially for you, Carter and Jordan and will continue to ask God for HIS comfort, peace, acceptance and healing. I have had some good chats with Ben, Rachel and Ryan as they remember their Uncle Robert. We will miss him but look forward to seeing him again very soon!
In the meantime may we all along with Robert,
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to to the LORD; bless his name! Psalm 100:4 💕

Deepest prayers and condolences to Joyce, the Hayes, the Sparks, and the Jahns families.

Watching Robert continue to serve our Lord in this last season of his life both strengthened and encouraged me. At times I felt so weak and weary but seeing him fight the good fight lifted these drooping hands. Thank you, Robert, for finishing well and showing us what it should look like.

Sincere prayers and condolences to Joyce, the Hayes, the Sparks and the Jahns families. We share in your grief and mourn Robert's passing alongside you, we also rejoice in the total healing provided by our Lord Jesus Christ. I have many fond memories of Robert, but here are two I'll share today: Robert was very humble, down to earth and extremely relational...I was truly blessed that Robert took the time from his busy schedule to play a few songs on the piano at Keswick with my son, Will, years ago when my son was learning to play. My son, now a professional pianist/organist/keyboardist, grown, married and a father... was very young then and may not even remember, but I will never forget how it made my son feel! I also remember arriving at Keswick one summer extremely exausted and depressed. I am ushered into God's presence every time I hear Joyce's and Robert minister through music during worship... my soul was truly revived again that summer. I'd also like to give thanks and appreciation to both Robert and Bill Welte for ministering through song on the piano to my mother this summer shortly following the passing of my stepfather. She was richly blessed and I'm eternally grateful for each of you and the ministry of America's Keswick. God bless you all. Farewell for now, Robert. We will see you again!
