May 13, 1943 – June 4, 2026
Susan passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 4th, 2026, at 83 years old.
Susan grew up in East and West Orange, NJ, eventually residing in Southern New Jersey.
She enjoyed crafting, painting, and crocheting, (always crocheting a new baby blanket for anyone she heard was having a baby). But she had a true passion for horses that she shared with her husband Mathew R. Peterson for 44 years.
Over the years she worked in various occupations, but it was her position as a police dispatcher at Long Beach Township Police Department in Beach Haven NJ that led her to meet her husband, Mathew Peterson. Together they traveled and enjoyed their horse farm. They were passionate to participate in various activities for the Marine Veterans.
Susan is survived by her husband Mathew R. Peterson; Brother, Michael Carner; Children, Terri L. Hilton (spouse Robert Hilton), Richard E. Deyo (spouse Wendy Deyo), Stephanie M. Strang (spouse Michael Strang); Step-children, Scott Peterson (spouse Laura Peterson), Mathew Peterson, Vicki Peterson and Megan Peterson; Grandchildren, Amanda Preiser, Morgan Deyo and Kolette Schilling, Step-grandchildren, Kristopher, Brittany, Brianna, Kyle and Taryn; and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Mareta Carner (mother), Joseph Carner (step-father), her sisters Meredith Krozer and Judith Baxter.
Susan had such great love for her children, family, her dogs and horses.
She will be dearly missed and forever in the hearts of everyone who knows her.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to Military Veterans.
