Alton Roger Holmes

Alton R. Holmes, 94, of Wichita Falls passed away Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011 in his home. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, June 17, 2011 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Chris Dowd of First United Methodist Church of Henrietta officiating. Entombment will follow at Crestview Mausoleum under the auspices of the Air Force Honor Guard.

Mr. Holmes was born March 3, 1917 in Greenbay, Wisconsin where he graduated from DePere High School in 1936. He married Dorris Fay Vinson of Henrietta, TX in 1944 in Wichita Falls. Mr. Holmes served in the U. S. Air Force from 1940 until 1945 and then worked for Civil Service as Supervisory Training Instructor for Aircraft Maintenance at Sheppard Air Force Base for 27 years until his retirement in 1975.

Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his wife, Dorris Faye Vinson Holmes in 2001 and was also preceded by his five siblings. He is survived by his children, Carolyn Holmes Morris and husband, Randy of Plano, TX., Sandra Holmes Healey and husband, Michael of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Aulora Herrell, Forney, TX., Roger Smith, Plano, TX., Matt Bethe, Dallas, TX., Cody Semtner and Garrett Healey, both of Wichita Falls, TX.; great granddaughter, Lauren Piatti, of Plano, TX.; two great, great granddaughters, Jayme Piatti and Abigail Piatti, both of Plano, TX. Mr. Holmes was also survived by his long time companion and special friend to the family, Birdie Ward of Wichita Falls.
