Services will be held 11:00 Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel.
Barry was born December 16, 1959 in Wichita Falls, TX, to Hal and JoAnne (Huggins) Strother. He was limited in this life due to a stroke at birth. He still graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1979 and entered a work program. Barry became a fixture at the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank where he served as a volunteer from 1985 to 2020 (35 years).
Barry received Jesus as Lord in 1969. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and served in the bus ministry along side his dad for 37 years.
Though born with disabilities, Barry’s courageous spirit enabled him to ride a specially modified motorcycle, dune buggy and a jet ski in his younger days. He also participated in Cub Scouts and Special Olympics. This attitude also inspired him to obtain his driver’s license and live relatively independent since he did not want to be a burden to his family and friends. Barry was a friend to numerous people in the area. He was quick with a “thank you” when helped or “I’m sorry” if he thought he might have offended someone. His determined spirit and tender heart will be missed.
Survivors include his sister Karol Mathews and husband Dustan; nephew Jamon Mathews, niece Jessica Jacobs and husband Jared, nephew Noah Mathews; great nieces Rilee, Reese and Julianne; great nephew Jamison. Barry was preceded in death by his parents Hal and JoAnne Strother, grandparents Lee and Maude Strother, grandparents Charlie and Ruth Huggins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
Services will be broadcasted on Facebook Live at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Facebook page.
