Clara was born September 9, 1938 in Hobart, OK to Oren Leno and Ethel Goines Ward. She attended Port High School in Port, OK, where she met her two future loves. First was Billy Staton, who stole her away from another sweetheart. Billy Staton passed away on February 5, 2003. Shortly after his death, her brother, Clayton Ward introduced her at a class reunion to her previous sweetheart Harmon Royce McClung, who had recently lost his spouse. Clara and Royce Married one year later. Royce passed away on January 9, 2014.
Clara didn’t graduate from Port High School, but later vowed to graduate before her children did. She went back to High School in the early 70’s, NOT for a GED, but actually attending classes. She graduated from Desert High school at Edwards AFB shortly before her husband, Bill retired from the Air Force in 1974.
Clara loved travelling. Clara and Bill travelled by car, in a pickup truck with a camper shell, a pickup with a cabover camper, in a van and eventually a small Casita trailer that they really loved. They loved travelling everywhere seeing natures wonders and the man-made wonder of Las Vegas. They made MANY trips to Las Vegas, Nevada and Laughlin Nevada. They played for fun. They didn’t play for big wins. Give her a bucket of nickels and she would happily sit at the same slot machine for hours. They also made many trips with Bill and Michelle to the State Fair of Texas and to Bossier City. When her first husband, Bill passed away, she continued her travels everywhere with Royce. They went on a cruise that Clara loved and talked about in detail over and over for many years.
She also loved bowling. Clara and Bill had the same bowling team for 20 years, bowling with Donna and Charlie Gwinn. They all loved bowling and travelled all over the country for tournaments. Reno, Laughlin and Niagara Falls just to name a few places.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Ethyl Ward, her brothers, Donald Ward, Kenneth Ward, Harold Ward, her daughter and son-in-law, Terri and John Zellers, her first husband, Billy Dewayne Staton and her second husband, Harmon Royce McClung.
Clara is survived by her brother, Clayton Ward, daughter, and significant other Diana Staton and Jeff Zapp, son, and daughter-in law, Billy Staton Jr. and Michelle, grandsons Robert Alley, Steven Zellers, Shaun Zellers and Christopher Kellner, granddaughters Chrissy Alley, and Suzan Pustejovskey.
