Daniel was born on July 30, 1937, in Henrietta, Texas, to Gotfred Schaffner and Pauline Bitz Schaffner, one of nine children. He married the love of his life, Kay Scott, on July 16, 1960, in Iowa Park, and to this union were born two children, Cindy and Steven.
He earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Midwestern University, and Master’s Degree at University of North Texas, and had completed work toward his doctorate. He was employed initially as a teacher, high school principal, and then as Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Burkburnett ISD, since 1960. He retired in 1998, and stayed active pursuing other interests. He was known as friendly and outgoing, and was one of those rare individuals who never met a stranger. It always seemed that he knew everyone and everyone knew him. He was a loving a dedicated husband and father, and cherished their time together, and as much as he loved them, he made certain that God was first in his life.
He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Burkburnett, where he faithfully served as a deacon. He was active in the Lions Club, Retired Teachers Association and volunteered with Meals on Wheels for fifteen years. He truly had a servant’s heart.
Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife Kay; his daughter Cindy Schaffner; his son Steven Schaffner and wife Lauren; one granddaughter Emily Schaffner; and two sisters.
A celebration of Daniel’s life will be held on Saturday, June 13th, at 1:00 PM, at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Memorial Park. Family requests that all guests bring and wear masks please.
