Debra “Debbie” Lee (Waugh) Edelman, 68, of Arlington, Texas, went to be with our Lord and Savior on September 16, 2024. Debbie was born on April 28, 1956, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Bobbie Lee Waugh and Delores (Dew) Waugh.
A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated professional, Debbie’s career was a testament to her love of children. She began her career in child protective services and later transitioned to teaching elementary school, where she positively impacted the lives of thousands of children over her 26-year career. Debbie was a highly regarded teacher and leader in multiple school districts across Texas. She specialized in math and was driven by her passion to help students achieve more than they thought was possible. She went above and beyond the classroom to impact the lives of her students, offering hugs and love to those who needed extra support. Debbie was involved in school functions and programs, including PTA membership and Athletic Booster Clubs. Her impact inside and outside the classroom can be seen in the multitude of graduation invitations, wedding invitations, and special notes sent from previous students.
Debbie dedicated her life to her family and faith. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she led others to believe in the power of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She was an active member of Fielder Church in Arlington, Texas, where she served as a spiritual rock for her family and community. Debbie volunteered her time as a mentor with Kid’s Hope USA and led Community Groups with her husband. She also served as a Sunday School leader and director at other church communities across Texas.
Debbie was a bright light in any room. Her smile, warmth, compassion, and laughter were felt by those around her. She loved to laugh and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Debbie was a giver—of her time, love, and resources. She gave selflessly to her students, her church community, and especially her family, finding incredible joy in doing so.
She is survived by her mother, Delores Waugh; her brother, Michael Scott Waugh, and partner Jody Lusby; her devoted husband of 48 years, Daniel Scott Edelman; her son, Dustin Scott Edelman, and partner Lauryn Shackelford; and her daughter, Dara Lyne McCluskey, and her husband, Don K. McCluskey. Debbie’s greatest joy in life was being "Gigi" to her three cherished grandchildren: Colten Scott Edelman, Lincoln Wesley Ashlock, and Eisley Lyne Ashlock.
Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Bobbie Lee Waugh, and her brother, Darren Keith Waugh.
Debbie’s life was a testament to love, generosity, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched.
A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, with a visitation at 1:00 PM and funeral service at 2:00 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home, 1917 Archer City Hwy, Wichita Falls, TX.
