She was born on August 21, 1925 in Charlie, Texas to the late John Wesley and Lela Warren. Lorene spent her childhood growing up in Charlie, TX with her parents and eight siblings.
She married the love of her life, Wilton McCurdy on February 15, 1941 in Walters, Oklahoma. They made their home in Thornberry, TX and eventually settled in Dean, TX where they raised their family.
Lorene was a homemaker and a very skilled seamstress who was brilliant with a sewing needle in her hand. Her hobbies included quilting, making afghans, playing with her grandchildren, attending her grandchildren's sporting events, singing hymns, sewing for the public, going to the casino and all sorts of adventures with her daughter.
Lorene started working at Sprague Electric in 1972 and after 17 years of dedicated service, she retired in 1989. After retiring, she spent many years working for her daughter and son in law at their convenience stores in Lakeside City and Wichita Falls. Lorene could be found cooking the burgers and daily specials, she was an amazing cook. Lorene was a devout Christian and longtime member of the Church of Christ in Petrolia, TX where she was known for her beautiful singing voice.
She was known for sewing her daughters and granddaughters new dresses daily, so they
never wore the same dress twice. She loved making quilts for every member of her family as well as her friends.
Although Lorene could be a bit on the ornery side and at times a little spit fire, she was a leader, an amazing role model, and always put her family first. She was hard working, energetic, doting, always cared for everyone and she never turned anyone away.
