

Arrangements under the direction of Hampton Vaughan@Crestview Memorial Park, Wichita Falls, TX.Fuqua ‘Gene’ Boyd, 85, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010 at House of Hope in Wichita Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Texoma Cowboy Church, 919 U. S. 281 South, with Jim Strickland, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park under the auspices of the U. S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
Mr. Boyd was born on December 24, 1924 in Vernon, Texas to Floyd and Vivian (Bell) Boyd. He was a near lifelong resident of Iowa Park and the Wichita Falls area and was a former member of Lamar Baptist Church. Gene served in the U. S. Army 300th Engineer Battallion and saw action at Normandy, France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe during which time he was wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart. He participated in his outfit’s annual reunions for all the years after the war. Gene was a letter carrier for the U. S. Postal service and retired after over 25 years of service. He was well known and especially popular with the kids for the bubble gum and candy he handed out on his routes. Later on, Gene operated a business at home repairing and re-building alternators. At House of Hope, he was known as “The Boss” and the family expresses great appreciation for the care he was given by the staff there.
Gene married Betty West Boyd on August 5, 1946 and she preceded him in death in July, 1979. He married Ann Toby Boyd on January 5, 1980 and she also preceded him in November, 2007. His survivors include daughter, Kay Ann Taylor and husband, Keith of Burkburnett; step-daughter, Doris King and husband, Dr. Joe King of Tuscon, AZ.; brother, Tex Boyd, Wichita Falls; granddaughter, Shelia Wende and husband, Lonnie, Hawley, Tx.; step-grandchildren, Pam King, Dr. Tim King, Michael King and wife, Dena, Brad King and wife, ‘Kath’; great grandchildren¸Kayla McKinley and husband, Cooper and Harley Shae; great great grandchildren, Maddie and Cayson; brothers-in-law, Hal West and wife, Lenore, Paul West and wife, Kay, Charles Tyree and his late wife, Mary; sister-in-law, Dorothy Lucas and her late husband, Glenn; numerous nieces and nephews. Gene was also preceded by a sister, Iona and brothers, Alton and Clayton.
