Helene "Helen" Mackrain
June 5, 1935 – July 3, 2016
On, Sunday, July 3, 2016, Helene “Helen” Mackrain was called home into the arms of our Lord.
A memorial service will be Monday, July 11, 2016, at 11:00 AM, at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Stubblefield, officiating. Helen was dearly loved and will be missed beyond words.
She was born on June 5, 1935 to Anton and Maria Bachman Kugler in what was Czechoslovakia, Germany, before it’s dissolution. She grew up in Mainz-Kotheim and Wiesbaden, Germany. Her technical training in the last year of school was to be a beautician, which she worked at until meeting her first husband, Donald H. VanDewerker. Together, they had three children: Heidi Fenter Jacobs of Cleburne, Texas, Donna Wildes Sadler of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Gary and wife Maria Espitia VanDewerker of Saginaw, Texas.
She came to Wichita Falls in 1982 and worked at K-Mart until it closed and she then retired. Helene was a very talented seamstress and needlework master that was apparent in her style of dress and home décor. She loved to dance, whether it be ballroom, line dance, or a simple two step, done with grace and elegance. She was always concerned about others’ wellbeing more than herself, doing what she could so everyone around her would be happy. She had a love of cooking and gardening. If it could be made, she’d make it and if it could grow, she would grow it. She was preceded in death by her parents: Anton and Maria Bachman Kugler; brothers: Gerhard Haxel and Heinz Kugler; son in law: Glenn Jacobs and Bobby Sadler; and husband William Mackrain.
She is survived by her sisters: Edith Haxel and Herma Nehren of Mainz-Kostheim, Germany, Elka Kugler of Bavaria; grandchildren: Jennifer Fenter and husband Morgan Nichols of Mansfield, Texas, Jason and Nikki Fenter of Henderson, Texas, Jeremy Wildes of Wichita Falls, Nikolas and wife Angie VanDewerker and Angel VanDewerker of Saginaw, Texas, and many other family members and friends.
