He was the son of Charles & Mary Elizabeth (Anderson) Posey & was the sixth of their seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Dorothy, Lois, Marguerite (Margie), Helen, & Marlene and by his brother Cecil (Buster).
Jack was a lifelong bachelor. He considered himself blessed with generations of nieces and nephews & loved being with them. He was preceded in death by two nieces, one nephew, & one great-niece. He is survived by his nieces Bobbie Carnes, Margie Virdell, & Paula Meyers, & his nephews Frank Yeatts & Bill Sharon, Jr. Also included are six grand-nieces, four grand-nephews, five great-grand-nieces, six great-grand-nephews, two great-great-grand-nieces, & two great-great-grand-nephews.
After high school, Jack began college but Uncle Sam called so he found himself a soldier in the US Army. He was a proud Korean era veteran. When discharged, he returned to college, graduating with a BA & MA in Education.
Jack taught Speech & Drama classes throughout his teaching career in several Texas high schools. His work with his students earned more than one UIL competition in One Act Play & other categories. His students remember him as a good influence on them, teaching them skills of great value in their lives. After teaching for several years at Randolph High School in Universal City, TX, Jack retired from teaching to begin the rest of his life.
With a love for travel, Jack spent quite a while visiting friends & former students in several States & countries. He then settled down in San Antonio where he found a unique job suited to him as a tour guide at the Longhorn Hall of Horns Museum at the old Lone Star Brewery. A few years later, he felt the urge to move to Fort Worth where he found a similar job as a tour guide at the Fort Worth Stockyards.
Several years after that he found he needed to retire a little more. Jack developed age related macular degeneration so his vision gradually faded away. He fought it valiantly, taking to heart the Dylan Thomas poem, “Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night.” Using all his skills as an actor, he was able to interact with people normally, not letting on that he could see mostly shadows.
While Jack was always careful with his money, he was very generous with gifts & charitable contributions. His charity of choice was the Hospice of Wichita Falls. Jack was a lifelong Christian.
A memorial service & celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 2 PM at Crestview Memorial Park, 1917 Archer City Hwy, Wichita Falls, TX 76302.
