

Jim was born in Wilmer, Texas on September 21, 1948, to Floyd "Doc" Owens and Elizabeth Beavers Owens. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings John Floyd Owens, Erlene Murrow, DC Owens, Lee Ray Owens. Jim is survived by: his wife Chesta Owens of Wichita Falls, Texas; daughters Julia Hilton and husband Kenny of Como, Texas and Dyanna Zeisman and husband Paul of Lakeside City, Texas; sisters Xan Gahan and husband Mike of San Antonio, Texas and Helen Shaver and husband Bill of Aransas Pass, Texas; granddaughter Lauren Rizzo and husband Andrew, grandson Aaron Rheinfeldt, granddaughter Chloe Zeisman, great grandchildren Carson Thomas, Brayleigh Cora Rizzo, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim served in the Core of Engineer during Vietnam, 1969-1975 as a Specialist Five where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/9 Bronze Service Awards, Vietnam Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Vietnam Civil Act Medal. Upon discharge he went to work for Sears Corporation in construction. Jim was very active in his love of square dancing. He met his wife in Dallas, Texas in 1983 during a square-dancing function and on August 5, 1983 they were married. Jim and his family moved to Wichita Falls in 1985. He worked in construction and warehouse receivables and distributions for the next 20 years. Upson retirement he started his own company Jim Owens' Handyman.
Jim loved his family and stood behind them in life decisions. Family was very important to him; during the last 40 years he never missed an Owens Family Reunion. He was very involved in the Indian Princess and soccer summer trips and sleepovers.
Jim's activities in life were bowling, square-dancing (President of Swinging Stars Square Dance club several times and Red River Valley Square Dancing Association), playing soccer, bicycling (rode in the Wichita Falls Hotter than Hell for over 20 years, rode 56K several times and 100 miles one time). He also snow skied, climbed 14,0000 Ft. mountains in Colorado with his brother-in-laws, and was an avid fresh and saltwater angler.
Jim's life will be honored with a graveside Memorial at Dundee, Texas on September 19th at 10:00 A.M. At that time his ashes will be spread. A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and local families on Sunday, June 8th at 2:00 P.M., at Square Dance Land, 812 Travis, Wichita Falls, Texas. Celebration of Life will also be held at the Owens' family reunion in July.
