

James Donald “Jim” Weaver, was born April 23, 1954 in Gainesville, Texas to Patricia Ann Weaver (Settle) and Donald Joe Weaver. He attended schools in Gainesville and Coleman before Graduating South Garland High School in 1973. He attended one semester at Texas Tech University before being accepted to the Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Training Academy in Austin graduating in Class “A-75.”
Jim was a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper in Hunt and Delta Counties from 1975 until 1985. In 1985, Jim promoted to Sergeant Investigator in the DPS Narcotics Service in Midland. While in Midland, Jim met and married his wife Susan Weaver (Johnson). In 1995, Jim transferred to the Wichita Falls area where he worked until his retirement in 2004. After retiring from the State, Jim worked for Petrolia ISD as a substitute teacher and resource officer and as the Chief Deputy for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Jim held many titles throughout his life. Son, Husband, Father, Trooper, Sergeant, Chief, and Friend. No title he held was as important to him as the title he held most dear in his heart, “Papaw.” He loved his Grandchildren with all of his heart and loved talking about them and hearing about their activities. Jim was a lover of animals and each one he had also had a special place in his heart.
Jim left this earth on Monday, November 7, 2022, in Lubbock surrounded by his family. Jim is survived by his wife Susan; his sons Jake Weaver and wife Kristi, their children Dustin and Collin Weaver; Alex Hale and wife Heather, their Children Olivia and Alexis Hale; and Nick Holmes and wife Lindsay, and their children Brexton and Marinley Holmes; along with many friends and colleagues.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at United Regional Healthcare Systems in Wichita Falls and University Medical Center in Lubbock for their care for Jim in his final days. The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, November 13, 2022, from 6 to 8 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday November 14, 2022 at 10 AM, at the Cowboy Church in Henrietta. Interment will be the Cowboy Church in Henrietta Cemetery.
