John A Salkeld, age 77, of Wichita Falls, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Born on March 8, 1948, in Quanah, Texas, to Phil and Sara Jane Salkeld, John spent his early years in his hometown, where he developed a deep love for family, service and faith.
John pursued his undergraduate studies at West Texas State University and went on to earn a Master's in Social Work degree from Our Lady of the Lake University. Throughout his career, he dedicated his life to helping others as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC). His professional legacy includes impactful work at North Texas State Hospital - Vernon Campus, Red River Hospital, Rose Street Clinic, anf the North Texas Discover Hope Center.
A man of great compassion, John was also an active member of Toastmasters and deeply involved in his community, with riding in the ideal Hotter than Hell Bike Race and First Christian Church. He was a mentor, counselor, and friend to many, always ready with a kind word and a listening ear.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Diana Salkeld; his brother Joe Salkeld and wife Carol Jean of Boerne, Texas; sister Patsy Files of San Jose, California; sister-in-law, Linda Harris, brother-in-law, Bobby Chandler and wife Cyndie Chandler, all of Wichita Falls. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and dear family and friends, Rita Rix and her son, Thomas, along with his cherished feline companions, Tess and Brooklyn.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Sara Jane Salkeld, and his brother Jim Salkeld.
John's life was one of service, sincerity, and quiet strength. He leaves behind a legacy of love and care that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM, at First Christian Church, 3701 Taft Blvd, Wichita Falls, TX 76308. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Wichita Falls Faith Mission or Wichita Falls Humane Society.
