John Monroe Scott, a lifetime resident of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away at the age of 94 on August 20, 2025. He was the sixth of seven children of James C. Scott and Alice Rowe Scott. Born in his parents’ home on Kemp Street in Wichita Falls, he grew up utilizing his brain, heart, hands, and creativity. He had a passion for gardening, growing trees, and making friends. He was a dedicated electrician and member of the local IBEW union. He often shared fond memories of playing football and baseball for the Wichita Falls Coyotes, and the legacy of their state football championship teams, in 1948 and 1949. He was married to his loving wife, Maria C. Scott, for over forty years, before her passing. Together, they raised three children in the Catholic faith, all of whom graduated from Notre Dame High School. Known for his hard work and positive attitude, always with a smile, his contributions to his community, church, and family were numerous. The many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews learned from his life example to love God, country, and especially family. He will be missed but not forgotten by all who knew him. John M. Scott may your spirit rest in peace as a beloved servant of God.
Survivors cherishing his memory include his three children, John Benny Scott, Belinda Scott Manukian and Robert James Scott; six grandchildren, Brice, Chandler, Caroline, Catherine, Thomas, Cari and Cloe Scott, two great grandchildren Margarett Grace Brock and Isaiah James Brock, and countless nieces and nephews.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on August 30, 2025, starting with the viewing at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home (Archer City Hwy) at 12:00 pm followed by a procession to Sacred Heart Cemetery for a graveside ceremony at 2:00 pm. We will then proceed to the Knights of Columbus Hall, for a 2:25 pm “Celebration of Life” reception, where food and beverages will be provided.
As many of you know, John enjoyed nature and beautiful trees. We ask that in lieu of flowers, to consider planting a tree in his honor. You may do this by a) planting your own fruit, nut or shade tree or b) making a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation (https://www.arborday.org).
