John E Self

John was born on August 8, 1947 in Wichita Falls, Texas to John Walter and Laramie Self. He graduated from Rider High School in Wichita Falls and then served in the United States Airforce during the Vietnam War. He then worked for Sutherland Lumber Company and later moved to Sherman to work for Texas Instruments (later becoming Raytheon) in 1979, where he was a Manufacturing Engineer until his retirement. He spent the last years of his life in the Arlington, Texas area.

He was preceded in death by his parents: John Walter and Laramie Myrdis Self.

He is survived by two daughters: Sherri Nevels of Dunnellon, Florida and Jennifer Taylor and her husband Chuck of Arlington, Texas; two sisters: Beverly Shaffer of Wichita Falls and Linda Self Rea of Mooresville, North Carolina; six grandchildren: Cavin Taylor and wife Tessa, Leah Nevels and husband Kenny, Marcus Taylor and wife Alexis, Chelsea Nevels and husband Cammeron, Sharridyn Nevels and husband Jacob, and Zachary Taylor; ten great-grandchildren: Cadin, James, McKenzie, Brynn, Emmerson, Landon, Calliope, Kingsley, Stoakley, and soon to arrive Asher; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 12:00 noon with a Funeral Service following at 2:00 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park 1917 Archer City Highway, Wichita Falls, Texas, 76302
