

At 17, he left the farmers plow for the United States Army. Enlisting as an infantry soldier in 1960 and retiring in 1981. His duty assignments included Germany, Africa where he met his wife Ghidei, (deceased 2024) a combat tour in Vietnam, Iran, Turkey and many other countries. He was the honor graduate of the US ARMY’s NCO Academy in 1972. After his Army retirement, He then served with distinction as a telecommunications instructor at Sheppard Air Force Base teaching students of all branches of the armed forces and having one of the highest student pass rates for a challenging technical field.
Sarge, as he was known around town, had a military surplus store which he ran part time for over 30 years.
He leaves behind a daughter Sandra, son Alexander, (Amy) a granddaughter Irene who he loved being silly with, his siblings Betty Flowers. Louise Newberry. Dora Levatte Tiggs. Gwendolyn Levatte. Tara Williams. Larry Levatte Sr. Lottie Harris Victor Levatte. And two younger siblings preceded him in death, Annie Jewel Levatte and Darel Cratic.
A Funeral Service will be held at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home, 1917 Archer City Hwy, Wichita Falls, TX 76302, US, on September 4, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
