

Josephine Van Winkle Dimock or “Mama Jo” as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren was born in Blum, Texas, January 8, 1926 to Agnes (Rankin) and Tommy Van Winkle and went to be with her Lord on September 11, 2010 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Celebration of her life will be held at Hampton Vaughn Funeral Home at 3:00pm on Monday, September 13, 2010 with Reggie Coe officiating.
She married Charles "Buddy" Dimock in April, 1950 and they made their home in Wichita Falls for 51 years together until his death in October, 2001.
She graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education and earned a Masters of Education at Midwestern State University. Jo was a Registered Nurse from 1946 until her retirement in 1988. She served as Director of Wichita General School of Nursing and later was Director of Nursing at the Wichita Falls City-County Health Department.
Jo was active in The Texas Nurses Association and served as President of District 11. She also held several offices including Chairman of the Nursing Division of the Texas Public Health Association.
She was a lifelong member of Faith Village Church of Christ where she was a Bible Class teacher for many years.
Mama Jo always opened her home to anyone and especially enjoyed her precious grandchildren for whom she loved making personalized birthday cakes. Thanksgiving and Christmas were always special to her and she loved having her whole family together.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Patti Gray, brother, Thomas Richard Van Winkle, and sisters, Sue Huffer, Patricia Glauner, and Johnnie Ruth Burgess.
She is survived by her son Charles Ivan Dimock, Jr. and wife Gina of Abilene, Texas, two daughters, Vicki Dimock and husband Michael Sullivan of Austin, Texas, and Cindy Walker and husband Jerry of Wichita Falls, Texas; two sisters, Mary Lou Rodgers and Rose Ellen Burnam; and ten grandchildren, Chad Dimock and wife Micah, Brad Dimock, Tara Pollock and husband Chris, Tricia Boyd, Kevin Patterson and wife Rebekah, Steven Patterson and wife Rachel, DeAndra West and husband Eric, Erik Walker, Christia Scarborough and husband Marc, and Kim Roth. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren.
