Karen Jeanette Reed (Henry) was born April 16, 1957 to Wesley Bert & Arlene (Loveless) Henry. She passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on June 10th, 2025. She is preceded in death by her father, Wesley Bert Henry and her brother Jeffrey Henry. She is survived by her mother, Arlene Henry, her brother, Bryan Henry and wife Mary, and niece Audrey Leach and husband Michael, and nephew Andrew Bonnegent, and cousins Jo Henry and Donna Chambers.
Karen Reed graduated from Richardson High school in 1975 and pursued higher education at Baylor, completing her undergraduate degree in 1979, and then Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, graduating in 1983 and at Baylor Scott & White – Baylor College of Medicine (Temple), completing her pediatric residency in 1986. She was a partner at the Clinics of North Texas Pediatric Department, having practiced medicine for 38 years before retiring in 2024.
Karen spent her free time participating in hobbies such as square dancing, embroidery, gardening, attending live U2 concerts, and traveling with her parents and beloved canine companions. She was heavily involved in community-based committees and volunteer events throughout the greater Wichita Falls area. Karen always beamed with pride at the awards and ribbons she and the dogs earned at Agility and Obedience Competitions.
The last year of her life was spent in and out of hospitals and rehabilitation facilities. She battled a very rare kidney disease that weakened her body but not her spirit or her love for her friends and family. Of paramount importance to Karen, though, was the care of her beloved beardies. We fondly remember the bearded collies that gave Karen comfort and companionship throughout her lifetime: Skylar, Allye, Madelyn, and Sterling. And we embrace the ones left behind to give comfort and companionship beyond her earthly presence: Delaney, Winslow, Donovan, Beckett, and Maverick.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations to Miracle League of Wichita Falls in Karen’s memory. Karen’s family also would like to express their deep gratitude to Visiting Angels and Hospice of Wichita Falls.
