

On December 7, 2011, Leonard LaVerne “Dusty” Rhoades took his last breath on Earth and his first breath in Heaven. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, December 12, 2011 in the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home with Reverend Alice Hupp of Park Place Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:30 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Leonard was born on July 23, 1933 at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to Lawrence B. and Mabel Corene Rhoades. Leonard grew up in a military family and lived in many places. He graduated from Warwick, VA where he played football and was dubbed ‘Superman’ by the local newspaper. Leonard served in the U. S. Army in Japan as a communication expert before marrying Diana C. Sullivan in Virginia in 1958. They moved to Wichita Falls where he worked for the Ft. Worth & Denver, Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroads for forty years. Leonard, along with his family, was a member of Park Place Christian Church where he served as a member of the Diaconate.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diana; daughters, Lasue Rhoades and Robin Rhoades Scales, both of Wichita Falls; sons, L. Mark Rhoades and wife, Devia of Wichita Falls and Michael L. Rhoades and wife, Lisa of Watauga , TX Eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren were blessed by having him in their lives.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Beard.
Pallbearers will be Brad Smith, David Beard, Dennis Beard, Al Smith, Jay Wagenfueher and David Terry. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Isbell, Jacob Rhoades and Wilmar Sullivan.
