Linda Rae Gambill, 82, a longtime resident of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, following a brief and courageous battle with glioblastoma. For her final 76 days of life, Linda relocated to Azle, Texas, to receive dedicated hospice care and be close to her family.
Born on July 12, 1943, in Wichita Falls, she was the beloved daughter of the late Richard and Dorothy Johns. Linda dedicated her life to the service of others, earning her license as an LVN in 1977 and graduating as a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1981. She spent the majority of her distinguished, decades-long nursing career caring for patients at the Wichita Falls State Hospital before her retirement. Beyond her clinical work, Linda was a dedicated public servant who lent her leadership and expertise to several leadership councils, serving for many years on the Seymour School Board, the Texas Board of Nursing, and the Texas Water Well Drillers Board. Her compassion, leadership, and unwavering dedication left an indelible mark on her colleagues, her community, and the countless lives she touched.
Linda was a woman of deep faith and strength. While her rapid decline was difficult to witness, her family takes immense comfort in knowing she is fully restored, free of pain, and resting in Heaven with a new body.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Dr. Calvin Gambill; her stepdaughter, Linda Joyce McQueen; and her stepsons, David Gambill and Jimmy Gambill.
Her legacy of love and devotion lives on through her surviving family: her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Yolanda Gambill; her grandchildren, Ericka and Glenn Reeves with their precious son Calvin, and Bryce Gambill; and her step-grandchildren, Steve, Jim, and Chris White.
She is also survived by her devoted sisters, Diana and Jenny; her brother, Jerry, and wife Teresa; and a large, loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends, alongside the nursing community she so proudly served.
