Margie Marie Commander Jenkins

Margie Marie Jenkins, 81, passed away April 22, 2011 in Dallas, Texas. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Hampton-Vaughan Funeral Home with Lydia Pellikan of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Jenkins was born March 6, 1930 in Port Arthur, Texas. She earned Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Music from North Texas State University. Mrs. Jenkins taught in Dallas before moving to Wichita Falls. Married to Edwin Jenkins June 2, 1951, she had an extensive teaching career as a choral music teacher and pianist in Wichita Falls. She brought music into the lives of many children from Sam Houston Elementary to Harrell Elementary to Jefferson Elementary. She was a teacher at McNeil Junior High and retired from Zundelowitz Junior High. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Mu Phi, Pi Kappa Lambda, Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. She was President of Delta Kappa Gamma and President of Retired Teachers Association. She taught private piano lessons many years, and was a member of the Wichita Falls Music Teachers Association.

She was married to Edwin Jenkins for 41 years until he preceded her in death in 1992. Mrs. Jenkins moved to Dallas in 2005 to be near her two daughters, Janie Christy and Jeannine Jenkins. She continued to share her music, playing the piano for holiday gatherings in her assisted living residence.

Survivors include her two daughters, Janie Christy of Dallas and Jeannine Jenkins of North Richland Hills, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
