Maria was born October 28, 1930 in Mission, TX to Francisco and Sanjuanita Gomez Guerra. From an early age, she had a love and appreciation for music, even belonging to a musical group called the Fabulous Five during high school. After graduation she attended Pan American University for a while and then moved to Virginia. She went to flight attendant school and became a stewardess for Pan American Airlines, flying to mostly to South America. While working for the airlines, she met the love of her life, John George Aument. They married on June 27, 1959 in Miami Springs, FL. After their marriage, she worked for Burdines department store in Miami, at the LBJ Library in Austin, TX, and for an insurance company in Altus, OK. Here is where they settled and raised their two children, who became the focus of her life.
Mrs. Aument loved doing yard work, sewing, and was an avid crossword puzzle solver, but her family was most important to her, especially spending time with her two grandchildren. She was also in constant contact with her siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, often talking with them for hours at a time. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Mrs. Aument is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, John Aument in 2004; sisters, Mina Sanchez, Christina Ramirez; and brothers, Oscar Guerra, and Rolando Guerra; and a beloved niece, Lisa Patterson.
Survivors include her devoted children and their spouses, Michelle and Tim Beaman of Wichita Falls, Stephen and Jessica Aument of Denton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Arturo and Socorro Guerra, Jose and Bertha Guerra; and two grandchildren, Emily and Logan.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Meals-On-Wheels.
