

Vernice Martin (Marty) Miller was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on November 5, 1960 to Bob and Mary Miller and passed from his earthly home on February 28. 2025. Marty attended Apache High School where he competed in Oklahoma High School Rodeo entering up in tie down calf roping and steer wrestling. Marty earned the title of Oklahoma High School Steer Wrestling Champion before graduating in 1979. He received a rodeo scholarship to Western Oklahoma State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in General Industry, Pneumatics and Electronics.
Marty went on to rodeo professionally in the PRCA in tie down roping and is a PRCA Gold card holder. He roped the extras at the NFR in 1991 and continued to rodeo on horses he had trained. Marty started training calf rope horses for clients and learned how to shoe. Marty married Felicia in 2002 and he continued training and shoeing until 2023. Of the many horses he trained and raised with his wife, nine competed in the NFR. Marty travelled extensively rodeoing and was quick to meet new friends with many of them becoming old friends.
Marty is survived by his wife Felicia Miller, son Casey Miller and wife, Tori and daughter Silver Miller, brother Wayne Houston and wife, Donna, and brother Rob Miller. He is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Mary Miller, sister Karen Foster and daughter Chancey Miller. Marty is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation for Marty will be held March 12, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home, 1917 Archer City Hwy, Wichita Falls, TX 76310. Service will be March 13, 2025 at his church in Devol, OK, First Baptist Church 900 Wichita St at 2:00 PM. Donations encouraged in lieu of flowers to First Baptist Church, Devol, OK.
