Visitation followed by a rosary will be held from 6-8 PM, Monday, May 28 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 29, at 9:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the DFW National Cemetery.
Mary was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 8, 1932 to Raymond and Henriette Sackett. She graduated from Washburn H. S. in 1950 and St. Cloud State University in 1953, then taught in the Minneapolis and Edina, MN public schools until 1960. In July 1957 she met James "Jim" Bracket, who was in the U.S. Air Force in Germany, when one of the four girls she was traveling with in Europe introduced them. When Jim was reassigned to the 2465 Air Base Group at Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport in January 1959, they began dating and were married in June 1960. Their military assignments took them to Taiwan, 1961-1963, Offutt AFB, NE, 1963-1966, Eielson AFB, AK, 1966-1968 and Sheppard AFB, TX, 1968-1975. Mary continued teaching in Taiwan, Alaska, in the Sheppard Education Section for several years, then at Rider H.S. for thirteen years before retiring in 1992. An active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she taught children's religious classes for numerous years and was also a member of the Altar Society, Jubilee Club, Vocations Committee, Women's Bible Study Group, Church cleaning committee and helped in the Church Religious Gift Shop. As a member of the Wichita Falls Association of Retired School Personnel, she served on the Scholarship Committee for over twenty years. Her other activities included Delta Kappa Gamma, Criterion Club, Wichita County Heritage Society and "Missus Klaus" at the Kell House. She and Jim have been season ticket holders to the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra for over forty years and Mary was a recent member of the Symphony League. They enjoyed traveling and have been to Europe on fourteen different land trips and river cruises. Mary is predeceased by her parents. She is survived by husband James, daughter Anne Short and husband, Jonathan, Alexandria, VA; son Joseph Bracket, wife Dawn and grandchildren Rebecca and Thomas, Lewisville, TX; daughter Catherine Hendrickson, husband Brent and grandchildren Paul (Vanya) and Julia, Blaine, MN; daughter Cecilia Edington and husband Dan, Wichita, KS; brothers William Sackett and wife Lynn; Thomas Sackett and wife Marion, all of Minneapolis, MN and several nieces and nephews.
