

Melvin Myers Breegle, age 96, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 1, 2015. He was born in Ardara, Pennsylvania to Harry and Marie Breegle. Mel was a devoted husband to his precious June, who preceded him in death in 1999. They met during the war on the Merchant Marine ship, the Wisteria, where Mel was an officer and June Gregory was a Red Cross worker. Married in 1947, they moved to Wichita Falls and began a family and a small business. Both endeavors prospered, with 4 children and a family business that became Breegle Construction and later, Breegle Building Products. Mel and June also operated Skateland in downtown Wichita Falls in the early 1950’s. Mel, a well respected businessman, was active in civic organizations, and a former president of Wichita Falls Rotary Club. Mel and June attended Grace Church, where he took great pride as a member of the building committee in building the original church and rebuilding it after the 1979 tornado. Mel sold his business to manager Bobby Diltz who kept the family name. Breegle Building Products has served the Wichita Falls community for over 60 years.
Mel will be remembered for his building and remodeling work, his famous shrimp dinners, his excellent pool and bridge playing skills, and his generosity and hospitality.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers George and Roland Breegle, and his sisters Elizabeth Burke and Marie Breegle.
His survivors include his devoted friend, Norma Schroeder of Wichita Falls, his four children and their families, daughter Jo Ann Chitwood and husband Dale of Iowa Park ,TX, son Danny Breegle and wife Janelle of Wichita Falls, daughter Phyllis Nall and husband Corky of Acworth, GA, and daughter Cindy Gilbert and husband Don of Wichita Falls. Mel has 15 grandchildren, Jenny Jackson and husband David of Huntington Station, New York, Chris Chitwood of Houston, TX, Kevin Chitwood of Dallas, TX, Michael Dobbins of Wichita Falls, Trevor and Grady Nall of New Orleans, LA, Heather Nall of Colorado Springs, CO, Sarah and Angela Nall of Acworth, GA, Bethany Adams and husband Stewart of Kennesaw, GA, Kathryn Rogers and husband Daniel, Corie Campbell and husband Jerry, Greg, Emma and Madison Gilbert all of Wichita Falls, and 8 great-grandchildren, and many loved nephews, nieces, cousins and their children.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday night, May 8th, at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Grace Church at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 9th. Memorial donations may be made to Grace Church Building Fund and Hospice of Wichita Falls.
