Long time contractor and builder in Wichita Falls, Melvin Ray Joyner, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2018 with his family by his side. Melvin was born September 26, 1928 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Audra and Fleddie (Scarbrough) Joyner. At an early age he worked in various construction jobs across the United States before becoming a professional rodeo cowboy. Melvin returned to Wichita Falls in 1948 to start a family and his own construction business. Melvin’s greatest joy in life was working, which he did up to a few weeks before his death and his passion was to help others succeed. He was known as a tenacious individual that could complete any project, no matter how difficult. He was responsible for the construction of many houses and businesses in the Wichita Falls area. His past times included watching professional football and rodeos.
Melvin loved his family, and was respected by his friends and employees. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes (Judy) Mihok Joyner and his brother and sister, Jimmy Don O’Brien and Louann Edwards. He is survived by his daughters, Judy Ann and her husband Dennis Hill and Cathy Joyner, his son Melvin Joyner, Jr., and his sister, Norma Jean Brown. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Shannon Hill, his wife Meridith and their children, Tabitha, Cooper and Austin; Sean Hill, his wife Kimberly and their children, Dolan, Kaleigh and Abbigael; Melissa (Hill) Champagne, her husband Keith and their children, Jack and Gabriel; numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be from 6:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Wilborn officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Hill, Nathan Moore, Robert Forrester, T.H. Stone, Johnny McClane and Robert Dentler.
