Bob was born on December 31, 1939, to Wayne and Janice Scates. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. A true outdoorsman at heart, he found joy in hunting and the simple pleasures of country life, “guns, deer, and John Deere,” as he liked to say. For over 53 years, Bob was a devoted truck driver, a career he deeply loved. He even taught his wife, Joyce, to drive, and together they spent over nine years on the road as a team. Bob took on daunting challenges with calm and resolve.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Janice Scates; his beloved sister, Linda Scates Hopper; and his twin sons, Anthony Wayne and Timothy Dean.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, with whom he recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. They had a partnership built on grit, laughter, and unshakable love.
He is also survived by his siblings: Rex and Ann Scates, Susan Peeler, Kathy and Leo Narens, Dr. Geron and Amy Scates, and Sarah and Brian Terry.
Bob leaves behind his children: Dr. Robert and Larisa Scates, Sandra Scates-Bell, and Lana and Jacob Scates-Castillo; godson, John Oats; his grandchildren: Jamie and Chad Dannelley, Jacob and Stephanie Castillo, Hayden Lee, Spencer and Jessica Lee, and twins Demian and Adelia Scates; and his great-grandchildren: Nathan, twins Jackson and Jameson, Henry, and one very special little girl, Maggie Rose.
Bob was a loving son, brother, husband, daddy, and Pa. He will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the compassionate nurses and staff at Hospice of Wichita Falls along with Healing Hands Healthcare for the excellent care provided to Bob.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home on Friday, August 8th, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A private service for the family will be held at a later time.
