Royce W. Smith Sr.

With a heavy heart, we share the passing of Royce W. Smith, Sr. who left us on March 1, 2025, at the age of 87. He was dearly loved, and we will always hold his memory close.

Royce was born on October 21, 1937, in Jacksboro, Texas to Dillard and Sally (Mathis) Smith. He was the youngest and last surviving of seven children. He graduated from Jacksboro High School in 1956 and upon graduating spent the better part of his life working in the oil field. He retired from Guiberson Oil Tools in 1995 and partnered with Ken Dowdy to start their own business, Maverick Sales Company, a well service & oilfield supply company. In 2008, he sold out and retired. Royce spent several years traveling and making friends everywhere he went, mostly Mexico, where he lived off and on for over ten years.

He was predeceased by his parents and six siblings as well as his two dear wives, Janey Ivie Smith and Pattye Haggerty Smith, with whom he shared many wonderful years.

Royce is survived by his four children and their families as follows:

Son, Royce W. Smith, Jr and wife Mylinda of Jacksboro, TX, their son Brady & wife Lacy, grandsons Kaden and Logan as well as their son Blake & wife Kailey.

Daughter, Janna L. Smith Johnson and husband Bobby of Wichita Falls, TX, their son Jason & wife Kristin, grandsons Gunner and Gauge.

Son, Bryan D. Smith and wife Deela of Nixa, MO, their son Wesley & wife Allison, granddaughter Laney and grandson Colson as well as their son Bryson.

Son, Toby D. Smith and wife Kristy of Wichita Falls, TX, their son Deven & fiancé Rhegan Blackerby, grandson Layne and granddaughter Baylor as well as their daughter Makayla.

A visitation for Royce will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home, 1917 Archer City Hwy, Wichita Falls, TX 76302. A graveside service will occur Friday, March 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM, at Oakwood Cemetery, 220 Oakwood Ave, Jacksboro, TX 76458.
